US Open Championships – 12 to 14 Oct

The 2007 US Open in San Diego will take place between 12 and 14 Oct and this year, the organisers have added a new fun class which they hope will entice some of the old, retired racers to dust off their skis and come have some fun.  Speed will be limited to 60mph based on GPS.

IWSF Congress Approves Belgium Worlds Bid


Today, Kuno Ritschard, President of the IWSF announced that the IWSF Congress has approved Belgium’s bid to host the 2009 World Water Ski Racing Championships unanymously, subject to the IWSF World Racing Council’s approval of the technical requirements.

Belgium Worlds Move Closer


The 2009 World Water Ski Racing Championships moved one step closer to finalisation yesterday when IWSF President Kuno Ritschard confirmed that the IWSF Executive Board has made the decision to submit the Belgian bid to the IWSF World Congress.

2009 Belgium Worlds Bid – Excitement Builds

On 19 July, Belgium submitted its bid to the IWSF to host the 2009 World Water Ski Racing Championships and the world of top class competitors and supporters is getting excited. This event would be 14 years after the only time Belgium has hosted the Worlds, when the superb Stefano Gregorio won Mens, the superstar Leanne Brown won Womens and a young Alex Ross and Tami Khan won the Juniors. It was a sensational week of racing.

Karl Brooks Memorial Golf Day – updated

The golf day in aid of the Karl Brooks Memorial Fund, has been moved to September 22nd. The venue is still the South Essex Golf Course situated 5 miles from Junction 29 M25.

Kim Lumley – New EAME Athlete’s Representative

EAME Racing Chairman Mike Waterman recently invited Kim Lumley to be the EAME Athletes’ Representative and to front up an EAME Coaching initiative.

Due to low water at Lake Mulwala – the calender for Ski Racing Victoria has been modified. The first point score is now on the 8th & 9th September, at Lake Mulwala. Please check out the web site www.waterskiracing.com for the new SRV calender.

The new IWSF Athlete’s Representatitive for Racing is Ann Procter. As most people are aware, Ann is a three time Women’s World Champion and a one time Junior Girls World Champion.

The Moama Water Sports has released the entry form for the Barrie Beehag Ski Race to take place from Deep Creek Marina to Torrumbarry Weir (on the Murray River at Echuca / Moama) on Saturday 13th October.
The entry form is now available on the Moama Water Sports Club web site www.southern80.com.au .

Entries close on the 7th September.
Please remember that the entries are capped at 105 entries.

Belgium Bids for 2009 Worlds

On 19 July, Belgium submitted its bid to the IWSF to host the 2009 World Water Ski Racing Championships. This meets the deadline date that was set by the IWSF Racing Council in May in New Zealand.

Worlds Press Release – Round 1

On 11 May, New Zealand put on a unique opening ceremony at Lake Rotorua in which two local Maori tribes performed their “Powhiri” where current World Champions Todd Haig and Kim Lumley were wrapped in Maori cloaks and challenged by a spearing weilding warrior. Thankfully Todd did the right thing, accepted the challenge by picking up a leaf from the ground and the ceremony completed peacefully.

British Team at Rotorua

british-team.jpgTo the left is a shot of just one of the teams that have arrived at Rotorua just days before the first race of the worlds. The British Team gathered for a briefing by captain Tony Williams this evening at the Novotel (team hotel) just 100m from the water’s edge.

For those not in NZ, the weather is not at all wintery as most people went about their preparations in shorts and t-shirts today. With very little wind in the air, the water is almost miror-like and unless things change in the next few days, we’re in for some exceptionally fast racing, at least here in the first round on Rotorua. There has been an extended period of very little wind in the area lately.

Trans Tasman Challenge 2007

On the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of April the Trans Tasman Challenge was run in the beautiful town of Metung on the Gippsland lakes in Victoria. This was a new venue which had never seen ski racing before. Well all we can say is it was the best venue Australia has ever seen for a Tasman Challenge bar none!

The Tasman Challenge

Brad Dutton writes …The Tasman Challenge was held in Metung Victoria, Australia over the weekend. This is an annual Junior Challenge between Victoria (Australia) and New Zealand Under 19 Teams. There are 8 classes contested each day (4 Boys, 4 Girls divisions) over 2 days of racing. 16 races in all where you can drop your worst 2 results.

Worlds Chief Judge – Howard Smith

British media reports:  Howard Smith of Cardiff, UK has been selected as Chief Judge for the bi-annual 15th World Water Ski Racing Championships which are being held at Rotorua, New Zealand between May 10th and 20th 2007. Howard will be the first Welshman and only the 3rd British Official to have been selected in 30 years of World Championship racing.

Mildura 100

The last of the Victorian Ski Race Classics was held over Easter. The team of Hellbent – Mark Cranny, Damien Matthews, Grant Patterson and Daniel Campbell have added the Mildura 100 to their impressive list of wins this season.

2007 Worlds Bulletin No.4

It has been one year now that Filip had his crash during the Marathon race at Lake Elsinore. Some weeks ago, he had surgery, but we are still waiting for the real impact.

The Sad Loss of Australia’s Adam Williams

It is with sad regret that Ski Racing has lost one of it brightest young stars Adam Williams. Adam was tragically killed as a passenger in a car accident On Friday afternoon March 16, 2007. Adam is survived by Mum Carol, Dad Darryl and sister Tara.
